Emirates

Flying with Emirates

Emirates is the Middle East's biggest airline and was founded in 1985. The airline was set up with the help of the Dubai royal family and is owned by the Investment Corporation of Dubai through its subsidiary, the Emirates Group. Its home is in Dubai and its main hub is at Dubai International Airport. While the airline flies to hundreds of destinations over 6 continents, Emirates flights to London, Bangkok and Mumbai are among some of its busiest routes.

Emirates operate a fleet of more than 200 aircraft. The larger part of the fleet is made up of Boeing 777s, with the rest being Airbus aircraft. Some of the airline's codeshare partners include Qantas Airways, Alaska Airlines and Korean Air. Although the company almost became a member of the Star Alliance in 2000, it is not currently part of any alliance. Another benefit of flying on Emirates flights is that passengers are able to collect air miles in the Skywards program if they wish.

Online check-in

Starting from 48 hours before a flight's departure, passengers with an e-ticket can access Emirates' online check-in facility using either a desktop or a mobile web browser. To do so, passengers will need to have their booking reference number and the surnames of all passengers being checked in. Emirates' online check-in closes an hour and a half before takeoff. After successfully checking in online, passengers are able to print their boarding passes. If they are not able to check in online for any reason, passengers can also check in by going to one of the check-in counters at the airport.

Hand luggage allowance

Hand luggage allowance on an Emirates flight is determined by the passenger's ticket type. Economy class passengers can take 1 item of cabin baggage that weighs no more than 7 kg and is smaller than 55 x 38 x 20 cm. Passengers travelling in First or in Business class are entitled to 2 carry-on items, with the first piece being no more than 45 x 35 x 20 cm and the second not exceeding a maximum of 55 x 38 x 20 cm. Each item is subject to a weight limit of 7 kg. Items bought in duty-free are not counted as a part of a passenger's hand luggage allowance. The hand luggage allowance for infants is 1 piece smaller than 55 x 38 x 20 cm and weighing less than 5 kg.

Checked baggage policy

The checked baggage policies on an Emirates flight offer greater allowances than almost any other airline. Economy class passengers are allowed up to 30 kg of checked luggage while First class passengers may take up to 50 kg of checked baggage. Flights to some destinations however have different allowances, so passengers are asked to please check before they fly. Infants have an allowance of 10 kg or a combined width, length and height of up to 115 cm. Sports equipment is counted by Emirates as part of a passenger's checked baggage allowance. Checked baggage that does not conform to the size and weight limits of a passenger's allowance may lead to extra charges from the airline.

Airlines should not advertise that the flight boarding time is 17.20, then open at 17.45.
